Ironman Retrospective

My day job is as a software developer, and after each block of work we have a retro(spective) where we discuss what went well, what didn't, and what we can do to improve on those things.

I figured I'd apply the same basis on my Ironman performance; there were many mistakes made that I can learn valuable lesson from, and a lot of things went far better than I ever expected and feel I should really appreciate. I guess by verbalising/notarising these it'll help me to avoid previous mistakes and to be mindful of how I can improve my race with very little effort.

A 'Little' Annoucement

So here I am, in Tenby ready for another Ironman! But wait, this isn't just an Ironman for me this year (haha, 'just' an Ironman), this one is very important to me.

I have only shared this with those closest to me, because when I say it out loud it feels way to real, but here it is, out in the open so I have to commit to it now.

Wetherby 10k - When Runs Go Wrong

Wetherby 10k yesterday, and frankly an appalling time for me. Trying to determine my boundaries of what I suspect maybe lactose intolerance and it turns out that just about everything is off the menu before an event.

1 cheese sandwich? Vomit...

It really sucks considering I live on milk and cheese, and that almost everything tasty contains lactose - I'm now going to have to find some other pre-race food to munch on this weekend to avoid a repeat of yesterday.

Still, all the races I've done this year and this has been the only true disappointment - a blazingly fast 10 miler, a podium finish, qualifying for GFA London, 6th place at another race, narrowly missing qualifying for World Champs in sprint... Can't complain this year really, and still 3 races to go not including the winter league!
