Wetherby 10k - When Runs Go Wrong

Wetherby 10k yesterday, and frankly an appalling time for me. Trying to determine my boundaries of what I suspect maybe lactose intolerance and it turns out that just about everything is off the menu before an event.

1 cheese sandwich? Vomit...

It really sucks considering I live on milk and cheese, and that almost everything tasty contains lactose - I'm now going to have to find some other pre-race food to munch on this weekend to avoid a repeat of yesterday.

Still, all the races I've done this year and this has been the only true disappointment - a blazingly fast 10 miler, a podium finish, qualifying for GFA London, 6th place at another race, narrowly missing qualifying for World Champs in sprint... Can't complain this year really, and still 3 races to go not including the winter league!

Dewsbury Parkrun - 1st Place on 1st Run

Very comfortable 1st at Dewsbury this morning! One of the hillier in the country apparently and I can certainly believe it!

Beginning to think that maybe hillier is better for me!

Bramley Parkrun - 1st 1st

Finally got my 1st 1st at a Parkrun, and of all the courses it was Bramley!

For those who don't know, Bramley is one of the hillier courses, being basically 4 laps of up a hill, along a small 'flat' section, and back down the hill.

I rocked up this morning and joked with a friend that I'd win it. As soon as we started a guy rocketed off up the hill and it took everything I had to even keep up with him. As soon as we hit the downhill though I overtook and pealed away. 2nd lap it took everything to keep ahead on the uphill and again I put more distance between us on the downhill. By the final lap there was a decent enough gap between us but not enough for me to be comfortable in my position.

Tough running that!

Physio - Shoulder Is Finally Getting Sorted!

First bout of physio this morning - she was surprised I could even swim! Diagnosed the issue and had some treatment, best part is she reckons with my arm fully healed (in a few months unfortunately) I should be able to swim properly and thus much faster than I do now! Happy days.

Current range of motion in my left arm is a little over 50%. After a massage and some general poking around that's gone up to about 85%, absolutely incredible!

Wales Day 4

Day 4 in Wales - cycled the big loop again and had one of the worst mechanical failures I've experienced on the bike, then ran some of the Ironman run and tacked a little extra running through Tenby. No swim as I'm pretty sure I'd have drowned today 🏊❌

I am defeated (but in a good way)!

Also, shot from my favourite spot - Ironman Wales finish line (well, it will be in September)!

Wales Day 3

Day 3 in Wales - bit of running (showing the Welsh how it's done 👑), cycled the scenic part of Ironman through to Angle (which is honestly so stunning), lots of sunbathing and finally finishing off with a few laps swimming from the harbour to Goscar Rock and back. Fantastic!
